BIO
(b.1974) Cape Town, South Africa. Douglas has moved around a fair bit, living at over 20 addresses, in 4 countries and on 3 continents. With a childhood spent in South Africa, his interest in travel, creativity and design were encouraged from a young age.
Qualified as an Architect and working in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia, it was whilst living in London (1999-2009) that he began to focus on photography with increasing attention.
Now in Australia, Douglas' work is represented by select Agencies in UK. In 2010, Douglas joined the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers(AIPP) as an emerging member.
STATEMENT
With his early work constantly evolving, themes of movement, abstraction and light were continually being explored, almost irrespective of subject. Current work is increasingly premeditated, layered and considered, often exploring environmental and architectural sub-themes.
PUBLICATIONS/CLIENTS
Douglas’ photography has featured on over 40 book covers and in numerous magazines. Notable use for novels by bestselling international authors include Robert Ludlum (Bourne Sanctie/Matarese Finale), Philip Carlo (The Killer Inside), Anne Rice (Blood), crime author Linda Fairstein (Bad Blood) as well as other renowned European authors, incl. Allard Schroeder’s De Econome and Tom Bale’s Skin and Bones.
Images have previously been displayed and sold to private buyers; through the exclusive boutique 'JVB' (Chelsea, London) and the Bureau outlet (Covent Garden, London) and used in various commercial interiors in the United Kingdom, including companies such as Champney’s and SDA Solutions. Douglas' series entitled DORP* was also recently featured on Urbanautica.com.
